Ready to Roll Out! Metroid Prime Remastered Arrives Feb 21st

In September 2022, Nintendo announced that a remastered version of the original Metroid Prime game, titled Metroid Prime Remastered, will be released for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. The remastered version will feature updated graphics, improved controls, and new gameplay features.

The Metroid Prime series is a popular video game franchise developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. The series features a combination of first-person shooting, exploration, and puzzle-solving elements, and has been praised for its immersive atmosphere, memorable boss battles, and deep lore.

After the success of the original Metroid game on the NES and Super Metroid on the SNES, Metroid Prime was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002. It was a critically acclaimed game and won numerous awards, including Game of the Year from several publications. The game's storyline follows the bounty hunter Samus Aran as she investigates a distress signal from a space station orbiting the planet Tallon IV. There, she discovers that an alien race called the Space Pirates has been conducting experiments with a dangerous substance called Phazon, which threatens to destroy the planet.

The success of the original Metroid Prime game led to two sequels, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which were released for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii consoles, respectively. Both games continued the storyline of the original game and introduced new gameplay mechanics, such as the ability to switch between different dimensions in Metroid Prime 2, and the use of Wii remote controls in Metroid Prime 3.

In addition to the main Metroid Prime series, several spin-off games were released, including Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS and Metroid Prime: Federation Force for the Nintendo 3DS.

The announcement of Metroid Prime Remastered has generated excitement among fans of the series, as it has been over a decade since the last Metroid Prime game was released. Metroid Prime 4 was in the works for the Nintendo Switch, originally being developed by Bandai Namco Studios starting back in 2017. However in 2019, it was announced that the game wasn’t up to Nintendo’s standards, and Metroid Prime 4 was given back to Retro Studios to develop the game from scratch.

The remastered version is expected to introduce the series to a new generation of players and provide longtime fans with a fresh take on a beloved classic. It’ll be the 2nd Metroid game on the Switch console, following the Game of the Year-nominated Metroid Dread, a 3D side-scrolling game that followed the events of Metroid Fusion.
