7 Hidden Indie Gems of January 2023

Welcome to the second half of my dive into January’s indie release schedule to find the games you might not know about, but really should.

The Bad kids

Based on the popular TV series The Bad kids, also known as The cat’s cradle, this game follows the aftermath of a murder accidentally filmed by three students, and the impact on their families.

Solve puzzles, and dive into the psyche of mothers, fathers, and friends, as they try to survive and navigate their new situation.

With a demo available, The Bad Kids releases on the 17th of January on Steam.

A Space For The Unbound

Set in rural indonesia in the 90s, Atma and Raya are faced with the end of Highschool, and a world-ending comet. They must explore and investigate using newfound supernatural powers, learning more about the world, and each other.

With a free prologue available to play, A space for the Unbound releases on the 19th of January on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.

The MultiMedium

You are an interdimensional traveler stuck in the multiverse, unable to get back home by normal means.

Explore the many realities and mediums, all handmade, and fight to find your own place in this universe.

The MultiMedium releases on the 20th of January on Steam.

ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree

The Gods have abandoned Midgard, and with it, the Sacred Elder Tree. After the death of her father, Estra is the Tree’s new guardian, but with the gods gone, corruption runs rampant.

Make hard decisions, solve riddles, and fight using an epic musical system to save Midgard from growing darkness.

With a demo available to play, ATONE will release on the 27th of January on Steam and Nintendo Switch.

The King’s Dilemma

Welcome to the kingdom of Ankist. You are the Head of the Council, leader of the King’s inner circle, a powerful, yet very fragile position.

Play as one of twelve different houses, each with their own goals, and fight for your house, for yourself, or for the good of the Kingdom.

The King's Dilemma Chronicles releases on the 30th of January on Steam.

Inkulinati

A charming and humorous strategy/action adventure, you play as an Inkulinati, part of a hidden medieval group which fights using ink and paper. Use your ink wisely to draw your army, and attack or push your enemies to their deaths.

Follow the campaign to discover the secrets of the order, or create your own custom character to fight against your own Inkuliati friends.

With a demo available to play, Inkulinati releases on Early Acces on the 31st of January on Steam and GOG.

Season: A letter to the future

The world is ending, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Instead, you choose to leave your secluded village, and collect memories of the world before it is gone.

Document, photograph, and record life and people as you find them, so that even after everything is gone, it never truly is.

Season: a letter to the future releases on the 31st of January on Steam and PlayStation.
